Oil change and safety inspection

It is essential to perform oil & filter changes every 4800 to 12000 kms, as per the maintenance schedule established by the vehicle manufacturer in your owner’s manual. Also remember that most periodic maintenance and service schedules consider vehicle usage in milder climates. As a result of much greater temperature fluctuations, Canadian driving conditions are considered as ‘severe climate’ and your scheduled service & maintenance should reflect this. Today’s smaller engines, as technologically advanced as they are, require additional care and protection as a result of stop & go driving in our severe climate and road / driving conditions, particularly if you ride in dusty / muddy areas or areas with poor road surfaces and other demanding operating conditions.

If your oil level is low, topping-off the level between scheduled oil & filter changes does assist in lubrication but does not get rid of the accumulated sludge and contaminants in your engine. That’s why it’s important to perform regular oil & filter changes as per your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations so your engine’s lifeblood is clean and viscous. Thick, contaminated oil provides nowhere near the same degree of protection as fresh, clean oil.

By performing regular oil & filter changes as per the manufacturer’s recommended service and maintenance schedule, you are helping to prevent premature wear in your engine’s vital components. To ensure maximum protection at high temperatures, increased longevity and optimize engine performance, newer synthetic oils are generally recommended. Most of these newer synthetic oils, however, can be significantly more expensive than traditional mineral motor oils, which are still very effective.

The lifespan of your engine’s air filter depends greatly on your vehicles typical operating conditions, namely the amount of dust and dirt which becomes lodged in the filter during everyday use. Replacement is recommended once dirt and other contaminants have considerably decreased the amount of airflow through the filter. To be safe, it’s good practice to change it once a year, or every 20000- 25000 kms.

At OK Pneus Mede, preventive inspection and maintenance helps to slow down these adverse factors and results in a greater degree of reliability and vehicle safety.
